One of the hardest parts about adoption is all the little ones that have been left behind. It physically hurt seeing babies and children in the orphanage everyday knowing that they had no one coming for them. I still see their little faces peering over the playpen at me. Goodness, their faces will forever be etched in my memory. I pray for them, plead for them, and ask the Lord for His sweet mercy on their little lives.
When we returned home with Hazel I wanted to do more. I for sure wanted to go back and adopt every single child we could, but we can’t. So I told Justin I wanted to be a voice for orphans. I wanted to somehow raise awareness, funds, and show the need. I wanted to be an encouragement for adoption and show the great blessing it is. I started with praying for the orphans we originally prayed about adopting. Then advocating for them. And one by one, families stepped forward to adopt them.
Except this one.
Sweet, darling Colton. Born April 2010 in Eastern Europe with Down Syndrome.
This was the first picture of him listed on Reece’s Rainbow. The one above was taken earlier this year.
Oh my sweet Colton. Why has he not been chosen? He’s 3 months older than Hazel and time is ticking for him to find a family.
So, for the month of November we are going to raise awareness and funds for Colton.
Our goal is to get the word out about this sweet little boy needing a family, and to increase his grant by at least $1,000 (because we all know that finances are a big obstacle when adopting). We are partnering with another family in California who is participating in the Angel Tree for Colton.
Here’s the plan (after much brainstorming).
I am a runner. Have been since 6th grade. Love running. I would LOVE for my runs during the month of November (National Adoption Month) to have a purpose. A reason to get out of bed in the morning at the crack of dawn.
I am looking for 20 different people/families to pledge at least $0.25 for every mile I run during the month of November–all for Colton’s ransom. ONE tiny quarter per mile!
The total amount of miles will be somewhere between 140-200 ($35-$50 commitment if $0.25 a mile is pledged). I will run my little heart out during the month of November to raise as many funds for Colton as I can. If I can get 20 people to pledge $0.25 a mile AND I run 200 miles, $1000 will be raised for Colton.
200 miles. Whew-y. You do the math. I’ve never run that much in one month, but for this little man I will.
I will lose all my toenails for this orphan to have a chance. Could they get any worse?!
And eat a lot of chocolate along the way. Lots more anyway.
I’m lacing up my shoes and I’m ready. If you are interested in sponsoring Colton and putting my feet through agony, please email me (email@example.com) or leave a comment on here or facebook.
Update: 22 have pledged to sponsor Colton!
My side-kick and running partner.
We have a BIG goal to meet. Will you help spread awareness for baby Colton and help meet our goal of $1000 in November?!
